The record
Every document this is built from.
Scanate is not built from a teacher's lineage. It is built from the declassified files the programs left behind, and this page lists all of them, with what each one contributed and a link so you can read it yourself.
Nothing here was taken from an OCR transcript. Every quotation used in the app was checked against the scanned page image, because transcription of these documents is unreliable and a trainer that teaches the wrong structure is worse than no trainer.
Cited in the app
These are the documents the app names in its own interface, on a stage card or a conditions card. If you see a citation while using Scanate, it points at one of these.
- CIA-RDP96-00788R001000400001-7
Coordinate Remote Viewing, Stages I-VI and Beyond
February 1985
The spine of the app. Every stage, the ideogram work and its four types, the sensory and dimensional vocabularies, the eight-column Stage IV matrix, the Stage V interrogation categories, the three-dimensional model at Stage VI, and all eight break types.
- CIA-RDP96-00789R003200200001-4
Targeting Requirements Task (U), SRI International
Final report May 1982, covering Oct 1980 to Oct 1981
The stage table the app names its stages from, and the controlled comparison of beacon, coordinate and abstract targeting across 48 trials. The same accession carries The Effects of Hypnosis on Remote Viewing Quality, December 1988.
- CIA-RDP96-00789R001100020001-7
DIA SUN STREAK Project Manual
16 December 1985
Session conditions, the cool-down, and the feedback vocabulary. Also the line that the trainee never works a session in the absence of all other persons, which is why the app states plainly that it omits the monitored apparatus.
- CIA-RDP96-00791R000100480002-4
1973
The original SCANATE coordinate work the app is named after: 100 global targets chosen at random, ten a day for ten days, with a run of ten completed in under thirty minutes.
S. James P. Spottiswoode, Journal of Scientific Exploration 11(2), 1997
The reported 340 to 450 percent larger effect size within about an hour of 13.5h local sidereal time, across two datasets. The app shows your current LST and says in the same breath that the finding is retrospective, contested in interpretation and awaiting prospective confirmation.
The wider record
These were read while building the method, to establish what the programs actually documented and what they never wrote down. They are not cited in the app, and they are listed here so the difference is visible rather than blurred.
- CIA-RDP79-00999A000400050002-4
1973
The twin copy of the SCANATE report, carrying the sponsor-coordinate test.
- CIA-RDP96-00789R002800260001-3
Personnel Selection and Training Procedures, STAR GATE
18 October 1993
The late training programme: the seven ERV skills, the limited monitor patter, and the statement that training begins with beacon remote viewing rather than coordinates.
- CIA-RDP96-00789R003300210002-1
STAR GATE methodology briefing
undated
The programme's own summary of its methods, including the five-skill formulation of ERV.
- CIA-RDP96-00788R001300100001-7
Special Orientation Techniques, SRI
October 1979
Extended remote viewing as actually run: sessions of about three hours, the viewer alone, describing impressions onto tape, with a visit to the site as feedback.
- CIA-RDP96-00789R003200160001-9
Special Orientation Techniques, final version
1980
The comparison that found ERV roughly of the same quality as ordinary remote viewing, and the December 1987 real-time versus precognitive beacon trials in which no condition reached significance.
- CIA-RDP96-00792R000600310001-7
Puthoff and Targ, A Perceptual Channel for Information Transfer over Kilometer Distances, Proc. IEEE 64
March 1976
The outbound experimenter protocol and its fifteen-minute synchronised window, and the precognitive variant with its full timing table.
- CIA-RDP96-00788R001100280004-7
The definition of associative remote viewing as a method for the one-in-N choice problem.
- CIA-RDP96-00788R001600530003-5
17 January 1984
A CENTER LANE memo applying associative remote viewing to the reading of sealed authenticators, alongside beacon person targeting.
- CIA-RDP96-00788R000200400002-5
That coordinates were given at the end of the cool-down period, not before it.
- CIA-RDP96-00788R000200500002-4
The seven-section session form headed PSI CONDUSIVE STATES, covering physical relaxation, degree of arousal and sensory input.
- CIA-RDP96-00788R000400060001-2
The CENTER LANE procedures list, including hemi-sync, discrete state work and alternate target acquisition.
- CIA-RDP96-00788R001700210003-9
19 to 23 March 1984
An advanced training trip report describing discrete-state exercises and First Stage Separation.
- CIA-RDP96-00788R001600470001-4
A planning slide weighing whether another method would work better, dowsing among them.
- CIA-RDP96-00789R001000010001-9
14 January 1991
A tasking sheet showing encrypted coordinates in use, and sessions marked CRV Solo and CRV Home/Solo.
- CIA-RDP96-00789R001000340001-3
1991
Session headers distinguishing monitored from solo work.
- CIA-RDP96-00789R001500260001-7

- CIA-RDP96-00789R002600280001-3
Further associative remote viewing material from the CENTER LANE period.
- CIA-RDP96-00789R003700850007-2
A viewer's memo reporting that the standard cool-down usually ended in poor results for him. A self-report, not a measurement, and the app presents it as such.
- CIA-RDP96-00791R000100030073-5
1990s
The only description of ERV session conduct available: a press article. The app does not implement ERV, and this is why.
Links go to the Internet Archive's mirror of the CIA Records Search Tool, because every link on this page was verified there against a control. The documents are also in the CIA's own electronic reading room at cia.gov/readingroom.
If you want the document and page behind any element in the app, ask and it will be posted.
